Clothing Then and Now

From the Series Then and Now

In Clothing Then and Now, leveled text and vibrant, full-color photographs help readers to compare how clothing has changed from historical time periods to today. Readers will also learn about the cultural and technological advances that have affected clothing and style.

An infographic takes a closer look at fashion in the 20s, another one explores cultural influences on clothing in the United States, and What Do You Think? sidebars encourage deeper inquiry about clothing, history, and style. An activity allows readers to further explore the creativity of fashion. Children can learn more about clothing using our safe search engine that provides relevant, age-appropriate websites. Clothing Then and Now also features reading tips for teachers and parents, a table of contents, a glossary, and an index.

Series Made Simple

The six titles in this series make comparisons between current topics of interest and their historical counterparts. Toys, cooking techniques, or communication methods of the past are then compared to current technology and the possibilities of the future. Information is brief and particularly American in its focus, but a diverse spectrum of people are represented in the photographs. Short, simple sentences in a large, easy-to-read font are combined with stock photography and plenty of white space in this early reader series. VERDICT History series aimed at the youngest readers are often a welcome addition to libraries, and these titles use an engaging format.
